We have been doing this since 1950 - So you probably know us already because you yourself sat in our chairs at our tables in the classroom, made smoke in one of our school kitchens, or were creative in one of our woodworking rooms.

The History of ST Inventar

Our history dates back to 1949, when Christian Søndermark founded Søndermarks Møbelfabrik in Tarm. The idea was then to produce tables and chairs for schools in wood.

Just three years later, the production of fixed furnishings began, and from there the development accelerated. With a particular focus on specialized classrooms, strong competencies, and an extensive reference list, we are today the market leader in total solutions for education.

We continue to work on developing the best interior solutions for the education sector, and today ST Skoleinventar is also represented in schools in Norway and England.

1950 - Søndermarks Møbelfabrik is founded by Christian Søndermark.

1955 - School furniture and school inventory become the primary focus, which we assemble ourselves in school kitchens, physics classrooms, woodworking classrooms, teacher rooms, etc.

1963 - The existing factory had become too small after significant development. A new factory of 1,600 m2 was built.

1973 - Founder Chr. Søndermark retires and son-in-law Mogens Jørgensen, who had been with the company since 1953, takes over.

1983 - New director, and later co-owner, Knud Pedersen joins the company. 

1993 - The company name is sold to a trading corporation consisting of four employees: Knud Pedersen, Knud Erik Strandbæk, Aksel Poulsen, and Bent Nielsen. This trading corporation then purchased the goods from the production company run by Mogens Jørgensen.
 

1994 - The four co-owners also take over production. Sales assistants Kim Dengsø Nielsen, Tarm, and Christen Jespersen, Lystrup, join as co-owners when Bent Nielsen retires and Knud Erik Nielsen sells his share.

2003 - ST Skoleinventar becomes part of Continental Investment Company A/S but continues to operate as an independent company.

2008 – ST Skoleinventar strengthens its position in the market through partnerships with architects and general contractors. The focus is on integrating furnishings as an active part of the overall learning strategy of the construction instead of merely a delivery.

2014 – Increased focus on sustainability and total economy. ST develops solutions with a long lifespan and low maintenance, reducing operating costs for customers.

2018 – ST expands its portfolio to also include custom-designed solutions for nursing homes and dormitories – with a focus on safety, ergonomics, and flexibility.

2021 – Sustainability becomes a central strategic focus. ST works purposefully with material selection, certifications 

2023 – ST positions itself as a total supplier of furnishing environments – from idea and concept development to production, delivery, and assembly.

2026 – ST changes its name from ST Skoleinventar to ST Inventar. Our DNA remains quality and customer-tailored solutions. The name change reflects our development, our innovative strength, and the growth we are already well into. We strengthen our position – and open the door to new and broader collaborations.
